learn how to take better care of your teeth, decide which dentist
is best for you, etc.
Our teeth are very important. The healthier your teeth are, the
healthier and happier you will look when you smile. Also, you most
certainly want to avoid painful toothaches and receding gums, etc.
To take care of your teeth, you need to brush twice daily –
before bed and after breakfast. When you brush your teeth, you are
getting rid of plaque. Plaque can coat your teeth and attract bacteria
and sugar that can rot your teeth or cause cavities.
Many people do not brush their teeth for long enough. It is recommended
that you brush your teeth for three minutes! If you have trouble
keeping track of time or brushing long enough, find a 3-minute CD
track or a 3 minute hourglass timer to help you keep track.
When brushing your teeth, be sure to use toothpaste with fluoride.
Also, make sure that you brush every single tooth, on all sides.
Do not just brush your front teeth! And when brushing, do not brush
too hard. Doing so can wear down your gums. Consider using mouthwash,
as well.
Be aware that it is also very important to floss. In fact, many
dentists may say that flossing is even more important than brushing
your teeth! Get in a good habit today. Go out and buy yourself some
waxed dental floss or gliding dental floss.
The better that you take care of your teeth now, the less likely
you will have to get dentures or dental implants in the future.
Also, nobody wants to have to go to the dentist to get a cavity
filled or a root canal or a crown!
If your teeth are crooked or you have an overbite or underbite,
etc., you are likely going to want to go and see an orthodontist.
An orthodontist may put braces on your teeth or tell you to wear
a retainer. You may have to wear these things for many years before
your teeth final straighten.
If you want a quick fix, you can always go with veneers. Veneers
can make your teeth look absolutely perfect! They attach to your
real teeth. For some people, something like veneers is too extreme,
and they are much more likely to simply whiten their teeth. There
are many tooth whitening products that you can find at a basic grocery
store, but you may want to consider having your dentist professional
whiten your teeth.
